Position Function:
The Geosystems Research Institute at Mississippi State University is searching for an Assistant Research Professor to conduct research and science outreach for regional geospatial and applied hydrologic research/modeling efforts. The position is a non-tenured track faculty position located on the main campus of Mississippi State University. As an Assistant Research Professor there is an expectation to participate in the preparation and writing of grant/contract applications and reports, present at technical conferences / meetings, and compose or assist in composing scientific research manuscripts. The period of performance is estimated to be a minimum of one year with a potential for additional years.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The research professor will oversee regional geospatial hydrologic modeling efforts and collaboratively work within a team of faculty and professional staff to expand research and outreach activities. Focus will be given to issues related to hydrologic modeling in estuarine and coastal drainage areas to better understand extreme events at regional and local scales, and to evaluate potential vulnerabilities along the northern Gulf of Mexico.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Earth and/or Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Experience with hydrologic models, geospatial analysis, statistical methods (including
machine learning), programing, and applications.
• Verbal and written communication skills to disseminate information to a wide variety of
audiences, including the scientific community, resource managers, policy/decision makers,
and the public.
• Ability to write and develop reports, peer reviewed articles, and manuscripts.
• Must be self-starter and able to work independently on project efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in development, usage, and applications of hydrologic models and associated
model output.
• Experience with spatial and time series data analysis.
• Experience in machine learning methods and geospatial applications.
• Understanding and knowledge of high-performance computing for geospatial applications.
• Experience in designing and developing non-traditional educational resources for
geospatial applications and analysis.
• Established publication record in geospatial hydrologic modeling and analysis.
• Experience presenting at scientific conferences and workshops.
• Capable of acquiring extramural funding for related research and activities.
