The Role

The Advisory team in India is looking for a Senior Consultant with 10+ years of experience to support our ongoing project and play a key role in our growing Water Consulting business. You will be working closely with our global pool of experienced engineers, planners and specialists to deliver water and wastewater projects in India. The current role is for a foreign government technical assistance to ministry in India.

This is a client-facing role and base location will be the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi. The role will report into the Program Manager based in Australia with day -to day liaison with our Prinicipal Engagement Officer in Delhi .

This is 2-year direct contract with the company with a plan to transition to Arup staff within that period for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

You will help ministry, state and city agencies through advice on conceptualisation, formulation and execution of city-level projects for water, wastewater and water bodies rejuvenation, as well as national level monitoring of progress. You will use technical knowledge to strengthen quality of project proposals at city level. You will be supporting the project team and also our global water consulting team, interfacing with both internal and external clients and collaborators. You will not have any direct reports, but you will be responsible for aligning your work with that of others team members, internally as well as at client-site. You will be required to work with minimal supervision in your area of responsibility, and you may be accountable for defined parts of projects.

 A regular day may involve the following:

Communicating to team on requests made by ministry and planning timely responses. Communicating at all levels in the office/department to expedite work at the pace desired by ministry, in cognizance of prerogatives and requirements of state/UT/city departments

Analyze data and information to understand and add value to streamline national processes. Discuss, develop, and deliver project scope, workshops, etc. Work on any task assigned, including best practice reviews, reports, and other documentation including case studies, tools, policy reviews, etc.

Check the quality and accuracy of own work and other team members and provide top notch advice in support of policy development and design and execution of projects

Key Requirements and Competencies:

  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering or equivalent or related degree with postgraduate degree in municipal engineering/ environmental engineering/ process engineering/hydrology/ water management/ or similar
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in water and wastewater consulting or equivalent
  • Experience working with government clients on strategic planning, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), design, delivery, monitoring and performance assessment of water and wastewater projects in Indian city context
  • Good understanding of national, state and city policy framework and urban water and wastewater national/state missions in India
  • Experience of working with multiple stakeholders in urban water and wastewater such as public bodies, professional institutions, non-profit organisations
  • Working knowledge of relevant national water regulations, standards, codes of practices and guidelines
  • Excellent team player with judgement and temperament to work from government client-site with ability to work well with people at all levels with strong networking and relationship management skills
  • Strong planning, organisational and commercial acumen with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills in English. Hindi and other Indian languages an advantage
