The center offers the opportunity to mix researchers from various cultural backgrounds and give them a high-level approach with an international vision, provide in-depth knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of environmental and climate research. For more information about the center, please visit http://estc.gmu.edu/.Responsibilities:The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting research and development of atmospheric temperature climate data records (CDRs). This position is full-time with an initial appointment for one year, and subject to annual renewal based on performance and the availability of funding.The incumbent will work with a team together to develop algorithms, software, and atmospheric temperature CDR products using satellite observations from the Stratospheric Sounding Unit (SSU), the Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU), the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A (AMSU-A), the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), to extend the atmospheric temperature CDRs from 1978 to the JPSS era for sustained and continued monitoring of climate changes. Duties include, but are not limited to:Develop, implement, and test algorithms to extend the atmosphere temperature CDRs using measurements from S-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites;Write and deliver monthly progress reports according to project requirements; andWork with the PI and collaborators in preparing and publishing the research results in scientific journals and conferences.Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Remote Sensing or closely related fields;Proficient in programming and data analysis with IDL or Python or MATLAB;Proficient in programming with Java;Experience in intersatellite comparison of remote sensing data;Experience in processing of ATMS and CrIS SDR data;Working knowledge of climate data records; andExcellent oral and written communication skills in English.Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in intersatellite calibration of MSU/AMSU-A/ATMS;Knowledge of NetCDF Climate and Forecast (CF) Metadata Conventions; andKnowledge of Earth system and climate change.
