You will use your legal qualifications, skills and knowledge to lead and support the development of sound public policy and water laws that advance the sustainable management of water resources in Queensland.
you will provide policy advice on complex water issues and develop options, policies, strategies and initiatives in relation to these issues. You will also supervise and support the professional development of other team members.

Key duties and accountabilities
• Lead and support policy and legislation projects using legal expertise and demonstrated knowledge of legislation frameworks.
• Provide timely, expert, and authoritative advice on complex and emerging policy and regulatory issues relevant to the management of Queensland’s water resources.
• Conduct and coordinate substantial research, analysis and interpret legislation and develop policy solutions to support the delivery of water reform programs and projects.
• Prepare and/or oversee drafting instructions for key primary and subordinate legislation for the Office of Queensland Parliamentary Counsel to support the delivery of water reform programs and projects.
• Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of complex reports, policy submissions, briefing notes, presentations, speeches, publications and correspondence for Cabinet, State Committees, Industry/Stakeholder Groups, the Minister, and senior departmental management.
• Develop and maintain constructive working relationships and networks with clients and stakeholders. Work collaboratively and negotiate with colleagues and with other levels of government, industry, and non-government organisations to achieve policy outcomes and deliver on Government commitments.
• Represent the business unit and the Department at State/Commonwealth conferences, internal/external meetings and committees and inter-departmental and inter-jurisdictional working groups.
