NUMEV project number: AAP2022-2-9-Dupuis Short name of the project: ECV-desalination - Molecular simulation for the optimization of the adsorption of ions in capacitive electrodes from plant materials for an eco-efficient desalination system. Project Summary: Lack of clean drinking water is one of the most pressing problems facing the world today. This water shortage affects people, industry and agriculture, with serious consequences for health and the economy. To combat this water stress, water desalination systems have been developed, but their energy balance may be unsatisfactory. Recently, methods based on capacitive electrodes have been proposed to desalinate water at low voltage. Our project aims to use activated carbons produced from recycled plant materials as capacitive electrodes in a desalination system. We use molecular simulation to predict and optimize electrode charge transfers, thus enabling the development of an efficient desalination solution while reducing the ecological impact.
