This position is located in the State Remediation Section of the Site Assessment, Remediation & Revitalization Division (SARR) of the Bureau of Land & Waste Management. The individual will perform activities associated with the investigation and cleanup of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.
Job Duties:
- Examine and evaluate plans, specs, hydrogeologic and engineering reports, etc. involving complex methods for site investigation and cleanup actions at uncontrolled sites
- Provide technical assistance to consultants, state and local governmental officials, and industrial representatives
- Direct and oversee state contractors performing environmental response actions
- Oversee responsible party contractors performing response actions
- Prepare reports on response actions for submission to management.
- Enter site information into EFIS at least weekly
- Know and apply a combination of hydrogeologic principles and federal/state laws to CERCLA activities
- Perform project management activities related to site response actions
- Develop scopes of work and plan and coordinate site activities
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A master’s degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering and one year of related experience; or a bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, or geological engineering and two years of related experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management skills, math skills, organizational skills, and database management skills
- Ability to speak publicly/be acceptable in public relations
- Ability to interpret hydrologic and water quality data
- Ability to analyze documents and files, draw conclusions, and summarize when necessary
- Thorough knowledge of principles of hydrogeology, the geology of SC, and environmental investigation and remediation techniques
- Ability to lift 40 lbs., stoop, bend, and climb to collect samples
- Outdoor work in non-traditional work environments and during adverse weather conditions may be required
- In-state, out-of-state and some overnight travel may be required
- Must have a valid driver’s license, 10-year driving record that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines, and the ability to drive a state vehicle
