Job description
We’re looking for a Citizen Science Coordinator to lead and directly engage with our citizen science partnership working. You will contribute by providing technical support on collaborative monitoring programmes for ecology and water quality through an understanding of how citizen science data is used to drive environmental outcomes whilst ensuring all data collected is of the highest quality with consistent standards. You will support citizen science innovations and development of integrated platforms for data storage and sharing across partner organisations.
To complement the work of the catchment partnerships you will be working with area EA teams to coordinate and integrate citizen science groups and projects across West Midlands Area with particular focus on the Teme and Wye catchments. You will also contribute to a national working group, sharing learning and best practice from test catchments. Feedback successes and challenges to help the EA develop an effective and consistent approach to this work across the country and provide the best environmental outcomes.
The team
The role sits within the West Midlands Environment Programme Team, they are known for working with a wide range of people and teams across the Environment Agency, along with many different external organisations. The role reports to and works closely with our Analysis and Reporting and Integrated Environmental Planning Teams.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for candidates with either a degree in an environmental discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
You will draw on a number of skills to deliver the role and you will need to demonstrate your ability in the following areas:
• Technical/scientific knowledge of ways of monitoring the freshwater environment.
• Communication – excellent communication skills and the ability to take complex data and information and present it in an appropriate and engaging way with the ability to communicate to a wide variety of stakeholders using different techniques
• Influencing/persuading – using data and evidence to influence and effect
change for positive environmental outcomes
• Working with partners/collaborative working – experience in partnership
working with the ability to identify key players to focus collaboration work
• Managing data and information – use of appropriate data tools for statistical
Analysis, GIS mapping skills & interpretation of water quality data
