The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Civil Engineer who is a good team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

This role is positioned within Arup’s Emerging Markets and Development Clients Group whose service offer of focused across four key portfolios – climate and sustainability, cities planning and design, economic advisory and social infrastructure.  The overall aim is to contribute safer, more sustainable and resilient communities in contexts where the impacts of today’s global challenges are felt most acutely.  We work with governments (national and sub-national), like minded partners including bilateral and multilateral agencies, foundations, civil society organisations and research institutions to deliver impactful projects in the global south. 

Within this role you will enhance the sustainability and resilience of communities in developing countries along with strengthening the technical and strategic capacity of our partners by putting sustainability and resilience at the center of development practice in creating and sharing knowledge, tools and approaches which improve development practice by demonstrating that social value can be the heart of business.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and project management across a wide range of infrastructure projects which contribute to sustainable development in Emerging Markets prioritising Sub-Saharan Africa ad South Asia. 

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for individuals with the following experience –

  • MSc / Meng Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) – must be a Chartered Engineer registered with a professional institution ideally within the development sector  
  • Extensive knowledge and technical expertise in Civil Engineering that may include a variety of skills, site development, site management, water infrastructure, flood risk and drainage 
  • Managing projects and multi-disciplinary projects teams and demonstrate strong commercial awareness  alongside managing client relationships and developing and maintaining successful client and team relationships, particularly in cross-cultural environments 
  • Understanding knowledge and interest in cross-cutting issues including sustainability, resilience, climate change, smart cities and independently undertake project analyses and report on results  
  • Knowledge or understanding of Autocad / Civils 3D design package along with GIS, BIM and Hydraulic Design Software with desirable abilities to speak a second language apart from English (French / Spanish / Arabic)
