We are currently looking for an Analyst Consultant to join our Water Resources team. Much of our work is for water companies, but also covers wider infrastructure projects for developers and airports, where hydrometry and water quality data is essential to assess risk and support mitigations work. The successful candidate will work across our water, ecology and environmental impact assessment teams. There is also the opportunity to work with other parts of our business with the aim of helping to develop a portfolio of projects where hydrometric expertise can complement other environmental assessments.

Key responsibilities

  • You will input into a range of environmental assessments where hydrometric data can help with the understanding of baseline characteristic and change to support management options.
  • You will need to be able to work effectively with water companies, developers, design engineers, contractors, planner and other regulators to help achieve positive outcomes of our projects.
  • Data management, quality assurance, analysis and interpretation of hydrology and water quality datasets.
  • Specialist in-house training will be provided to the successful candidate in the areas of:
    • Data collation through water quality sampling, flow meters and using Unmanned Aquatic Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (no prior experience required).
    • Support the installation and maintenance of water quality and water level sensors.

Key competencies and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (at least second class degree in Environmental Science or Geography).
  • Appetite for working in the outdoors as part of a team and individually.
  • Effective report writing and numerical skills.
  • Ability to interpret data trends, spot erroneous data and sensor drift.
  • A full UK driver’s license (ideally with good driving experience).

Skills and behaviours 

  • Excellent team working.
  • Strong communication skills and a close attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic, keen to learn and able to act quickly and flexibly across projects.
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic and self-motivated to thrive in this busy and demanding environment.
  • Good IT skills with commonly used software, e.g. Microsoft Office, internet, email and GIS.
  • Self-organized. 


  • Experience of reviewing and interpreting water quality and hydrometric data.
  • GIS skills.
  • Practical skills (such as handheld power tools).
  • Flow gauging and water quality data collection experience.
