POSITION:Expert in Environmental Governance

DURATION / DUREE: 24 months
GENERAL OBJECTIVE / OBJECTIVE GENERAL: We are interested in an expert in environmental governance to provide technical assistance and support to the locally based team and local bodies in implementing Environmental Management Systems
The project is based in Cyprus and will involve different key and non-key experts.
PARTICULAR PURPOSE, APPLICATION SERVICES AND EXPECTED RESULTS / OBJECTIVES PARTICULIERS, SERVICES DEMANDES ET RÉSULTATS A ATTEINDRE:
Duties and responsibilities include:
– Formulating environmental strategies and push for its adoption and implementation
– Preparing action plans, defining indicators and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and setting realistic but ambitious goals
– Providing technical assistance on Environmental Governance, identifying inefficiencies and suggesting methods and improvement actions in relevant areas (programming, budgeting, financial management, budgetary systems, procedures, processes, etc.)
– Supporting, following and pushing the implementation of Environmental Management Systems
– Contributing to empower the local environmental experts, providing a clear vision of the sector, setting the purpose, and integrating and motivating the teams to reach their potential.
QUALIFICATION: – Education: A level of education that corresponds to completed university studies, attested by a diploma in sciences, mathematics, engineering or any other relevant discipline.
– Language: excellent command of written and spoken English, knowledge of Turkish would be an asset.
– At least 10 years of post-graduate professional experience in planning, monitoring, and implementing projects related to environmental protection, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, academic research on environment, or environmental consultancy.
– At least 6 years of post-graduate professional experience in supporting public administrations in the definition and development of Environmental Governance or Environmental Management Systems. Environmental Governance and Management Systems shall mean any of the following activities:
– Projects related to the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, etc. of environmental management systems (e.g: ISO 14001, ISO 3710 or equivalent)
– Projects related to the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, etc. of processes and/or procedures in public administrations dealing with environmental issues
– Experience in public administration in the development or improvement of environmentally related processes and procedures, or Environmental Management Systems.
– Academic research on Environmental Governance and Management Systems.
– Work experience in Cyprus would be an asset.
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE / EXPÉRIENCE SPÉCIFIQUE:
WORK LANGUAGE / LANGUE DE TRAVAIL: excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Turkish would be an asset.
