As the Environmental Impact Manager, you will be responsible for advising on, managing, and implementing environmental programs that reduce the environmental footprint of the Patagonia value chain. You will bring deep technical expertise in product and supply chain environmental impacts and topics. You will have demonstrated experience advising non-technical audiences on understanding environmental impacts, assist with evaluating tradeoffs ultimately guiding responsible product and sourcing decisions. You will report directly to the Head of Environmental Impact within the Product Impact and Innovation team.

The Environmental Impact Manager will be comfortable with reviewing peer reviewed research, synthesizing technical information for non-technical audiences, collaborating with cross functional stakeholders, and conducting presentations with small and large groups. You will have hands on experience working with impact data, including interpreting LCA data and factory environmental assessments.  You will be responsible for managing our environmental marketing claims substantiation process, ensuring that we have the necessary evidence to back up our claims. You will also support the team with strategy development and roll out focused on further enhancing the Environmental Profit and Loss (EP&L) and other impact related metrics, tools, and programs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Environmental Impact Advisor (60%)
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders within the business, product, design, materials, marketing, sourcing, sales, and production teams, amongst others internally.
    • Advise the business and product teams on the environmental impact of product and material choices.
    • Develop, formalize, and manage processes for ongoing engagement on impacts with key internal stakeholders.
    • Develop materials and conduct ongoing internal trainings on EP&L and supply chain environmental impacts.
    • Support strategy development on strategic environmental impact programs, tools, and impacts (such as EP&L, biodiversity, microfibers etc.)
    • Advise on environmental topics such as regenerative agriculture, biodiversity impacts, innovated lower impact manufacturing processes (solution dye etc.), microfiber pollution and mitigation measures, renewable energy, and preferred chemistry.
  • Environmental Impact Communications (15%)
    • Manage the Environmental Marketing Claim Substantiation process working closely with the Social Impact, legal and Marketing teams.
    • Collaborate with other Environmental Impact team members in developing a process to collect and track impact data used to substantiate claims.
    • Support internal and external ESG reporting efforts (B Corp, BRM, Impact Report, NGO requests etc.)
    • Collaborate with Communications and Policy team in developing a centralized internal platform to communicate environmental footprint initiatives and guidance FAQs.
  • Research & Impact Quantification (15%)
    • Oversee and manage external LCA process, including coordinating suppliers for data requests.
    • Manage the content for the EP&L and support Environmental Impact Analytics Engineer in enhancing data.
    • Support Environmental Impact teams efforts into monitoring domestic and internal ESG legislation related to product and supply chain.
    • Support ongoing internal/external research into microfibers and other product impacts.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to research and quantify the impacts of new dye technologies.
    • Evaluate and quantify biodiversity impacts associated with specific products/materials.
    • Support ongoing research into Scope 3 GHG intervention accounting methodologies.
  • Industry Organization (10%)
    • Engage with industry wide organizations (SAC, TE, Fashion for Good, OIA Climate Action Corp, TMC, coZEV, CEBA etc.)
    • Provide ongoing updates to Environmental Impact team and other internal stakeholders on key industry initatives.

International and/or domestic travel requirements about 10% of time.

Experience You Bring:

  • Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, or relevant sciences.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a corporate environmental role and/or consulting on environmental impacts and program implementation.  
  • 3+ years’ experience in program management.
  • Expertise in researching, quantifying, and reporting environmental impacts of products and supply chains  
  • Knowledge of apparel supply chains, manufacturing processes, product creation process and the related environmental and chemical impacts.
  • Experience in conducting and/or interpreting LCA data, Higg MSI, and/or Quantis WALDB.
  • Experience in environmental communications and reporting (B Corp, SASB, GRI, CDP).
  • Experience implementing environmental programs within a business and/or supply chain.
  • Experience with Scope 1-3 GHG accounting in line with the greenhouse gas protocol (GHGP) including understanding of intervention accounting best practice.
  • Understanding of biodiversity impact quantification and microfiber pollution.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Pay range: $ 91,871.82 – 153,119.70 USD

Hiring range: $105,000-$125,000 USD

At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
