JOB SUMMARY:The Department of Biological Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison is seeking candidates for a 9-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level specializing in water management for agricultural systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized extension and research program through extramural funding. Extension and research areas may include, but not limited to:
-Developing and applying water quantity models for audiences that include producers, service providers, consultants, federal/state agency personnel, and management in agricultural and food processing systems.
-Designing and applying digital technologies, sensors, and software to improve water use efficiency, production economics, energy use/cost, and other identified stakeholder needs.
-Identifying and addressing emerging trends, issues, and needs that will present critical challenges to irrigated agricultural production systems and food processing systems. These may include addressing climate resilience, adoption of new water saving technologies in agricultural and food processing systems, or other needs identified through close partnerships with stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:This tenure-track position will be a nine-month extension and research appointment. The position’s principal duties will include:

* CALS Extension-funded faculty are expected to generate, translate, and apply research-based knowledge and methods to issues and problems by integrating research and educational activities into a coherent body of work. CALS Extension-funded faculty are expected to provide leadership in the design, development, and implementation of educational programs and to document the impact of these efforts.
* Develop and carry out a vigorous externally funded research program, and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
* Develop an externally supported, nationally recognized, extension program that integrates research activities and is supported by competitive grants, industry contributions, and revenue from other programs
* Teach graduate and undergraduate students, commensurate with college expectations and consistent with the teaching loads of the department. Mentor students and promote their development and success in a collaborative environment.
* Contribute to outreach and service functions of the department, college, university, and professional societies.
* Contribute to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department, college, and university. Promote an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities.

To be eligible, a candidate must have a Ph.D in an accredited engineering field, or field closely related to the extension and research programs outlined in the position description. The preferred candidate may have broader extension or research expertise in the environmental impacts of water management, including mater quality.
QUALIFICATIONS:* Candidates should demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach in their research and a willingness to work with other faculty members within the department, college, and university.
* Successful candidates will have a record of or demonstrate potential for:
* Extramural grant-writing and publications in peer reviewed journals: The candidate should demonstrate the potential to develop, externally fund and maintain an active extension and research program.
* Teaching & curriculum development and graduate student training/mentoring: The candidate should be able to contribute to biological systems engineering courses and have a passion for mentoring graduate students.
* Contribution to the outreach and service functions of CALS: The successful candidate will provide extension program leadership that serves the needs of Wisconsin agriculture while collaborating regionally, nationally, and internationally on educational programs that focus on water quality, water management, and water use efficiency in agricultural systems.
* Promoting an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities
WORK TYPE:Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
SALARY:Minimum $85,000 ACADEMIC (9 months)
