Job description

The new project “Promotion of climate-friendly, water- and energy-efficient solar-based small-scale irrigation systems” – Sun4Water is a Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development contribution to the international donor initiative “Water and Energy for Food “. Sun4Water is funded by the German Climate and Technology Initiative and aims to promote the dissemination of targeted and sustainable-use approaches of small-scale irrigation systems in selected countries in East and West Africa. Sun4water will act in close cooperation with existing projects at place to implement activities around four main pillars: Capacity development for the dissemination and use of climate friendly and sustainable solar irrigation systems (SPIS), development and establishment of context-oriented technical and financial services to improve access to technology, integration of lessons learned in the policy framework to foster appropriate SPIS and participative further development and adaptation of the existing SPIS toolbox.

Your tasks

  • Ensuring the technical and content coordination of the participatory needs-oriented further development and adaptation of the SPIS Toolbox and App
  • Advising on conception and implementation of virtual and in-person interactive workshops and training formats, supporting in the development and/or adaptation of the corresponding training tools and materials
  • Establishing and managing of a transnational “SPIS knowledge network” to promote knowledge sharing among different categories of actors, and ensuring GIZ-interdepartmental knowledge management
  • Steering the collaboration with experts* and organizing professional expertise from the economy, science and civil society
  • Advising on strategic issues related to SPIS and its supporting policy frameworks
  • Participating in the conceptual development of the project
  • Supporting the project management in the planning and implementation of project activities, monitoring, reporting and external communication
  • Supporting the establishment of cooperation with bilateral and multilateral organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and the private sector

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in water resources engineering, environmental science, agricultural science or a related discipline
  • Several years of professional experience in designing and executing capacity development measures and developing related tools and materials
  • Experience in advising partner institutions preferably in African countries
  • Relevant expertise in natural resource management, water use and water monitoring in the agricultural sector, initial experience in promoting sustainable irrigation systems
  • Professional experience and relevant expertise in setting up and managing professional networks
  • GIZ experience or experience in working with GIZ is an advantage Insight into the current discourses on WEF and climate nexus in agribusiness promotion in the broader regional and international development agenda
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills, strong advisory skills and team player
  • Fluent in German, French and English

This position is suited to a full or a part-time position.

The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
