Your role
The Agribusiness, Food & Water department (AFW) is looking for an Investment Officer in the Africa team. This team focuses on origination, execution and management of debt investments in the agribusiness sector in Africa. AFW works with companies along the value chain including primary producers, processors, traders and logistical services providers. The main objective is to invest in private sector companies in the agribusiness value chain to produce and distribute food, work with (smallholder) suppliers and stimulate environmentally friendly technologies and practices. The Africa team has IO’s located in Nairobi, Johannesburg and Den Haag (Head Office). This vacancy is for the Den Haag Head Office.
Your role
Responsibilities:
- Execution of debt investments that fit in the AFW strategy: contributes to business development/origination activities, drafts key account plans and/or country strategies. Structures and executes transactions, in collaboration with Environmental Specialists and other specialists as needed, under the direction of the Manager or Senior Investment Officer.
- Portfolio Management (Reviews): has overall responsibility for quality and timelines of all internal documents related to the designated portfolio (e.g., reviews, change and waiver requests, disbursements, and Country memos).
- Builds strong relationships with AFW clients and prospects by understanding their business, the market and environment they operate in and the risks and challenges they face through regular visits and/or calls.
- Takes the lead, or participates with (S)IO, in negotiation/contracting process of debt investments together with the legal team.
- Coaches Associates and Portfolio Analysts as required. Provides context on work delegated to/performed by Portfolio Analysts. Ensures clarity on role/task division. Provides input and feedback to Associates and Portfolio Analysts on credit reviews, change requests, disbursement memos and on their part of the investment proposals (CIP/FP)
- Provides input to the team business plan. Participates in organisation-wide projects.

Your background
- Master’s degree – preferably finance, (agri)-economics, business administration or engineering.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in corporate finance/banking.
- International work experience is a preference
- Familiarity with debt financing in emerging markets, preferably in the food & agribusiness sector.
