We are looking for a Drinking Water Scientist to join our team in the Public Water Supply Bureau Monitoring and Reporting section of the Water Quality division.  The Drinking Water Scientist perform scientific and technical analyses, calculations, assessments and determinations essential to the implementation of the drinking water program in the State of Montana. Responsibilities include:  

  • Reviewing treatment specifications, protocols, and processes at existing and proposed public water supplies;  
  • Assessing and responding to drinking water treatment related functions, questions, and emergencies;  
  • Determining whether facilities are utilizing the best available technology, and maintained and operated in compliance with drinking water rules and requirements;  
  • Reviewing and implementing state and federal statutes, rules, policies, and industry accepted standards;  
  • Acting as a liaison for the Department to the public and industry on drinking water quality matters; and  
  • Function as a mentor and resource for other Department staff, the regulated community, consultants, engineers, and the general public.

The Drinking Water Scientist positions include a career ladder for professional development and pay progression.  This position is located in Helena, Montana but other locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, environmental health field practices, or a related field. 
  • Three years of program related work experience. 
  • Current valid Driver’s License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy

Salary: $ 47,150.00 – 58,131.00  Yearly
