Job Title: Nutrition & WASH Associate

Department: Global Initiatives

Reports To: Senior Director, Global Nutrition

FLSA Status: Exempt

Grade and Salary: 1 ($50,000 – $52,500 Annually)

Location: United States (Colorado, California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, Washington D.C), Vietnam, Cambodia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Zambia, Honduras, United Kingdom (with existing right to work)

Background

iDE is an international nonprofit dedicated to combating poverty in the developing world not through handouts, but by helping rural households access the tools and knowledge they need to increase their income and improve their health and well-being. iDE has 40 years of experience and programs in 11 countries in Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and Central America.

iDE’s vision, to catalyze the power of entrepreneurship to allow millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty, is ambitious and bold. We need a person who is, first and foremost, passionate about this vision and wants to help iDE achieve it.

iDE is working to integrate our Nutrition, WASH, and Agriculture programming to provide a more sustainable and holistic approach to supporting people to thrive on their own terms. This position will be supporting this process by providing an analysis on the WASH-nutrition nexus, country-level nutritional status reviews for our country offices, project management support for a new global nutrition award, and contributions to the global WASH portfolio of work.

This is a one-year position with future years contingent on additional funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Nutrition (50%)

  • In close coordination with the Senior Director of Global Nutrition and the Global Initiatives team, support the implementation of a new global nutrition project for iDE. Specifically, this work will focus on Honduras, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Cambodia in 2023.
  • Provide desk research for nutritional status and existing government standards and regulations in each of the key countries of project implementation. Set up systems for knowledge sharing and management of these resources for country teams to access information and resources
  • Gather available tools, best practices, project outcomes, and ongoing work in iDE’s global nutrition programming.
  • Work with the Evidence and Analytics team to set up measurement tools and support with design of baseline analysis for nutrition.
  • Support with the integration of nutrition into the existing Market Systems Resilience Index (MSRI) tool
  • Support in business development efforts for future nutrition work, including: tracking nutrition funding opportunities, developing boilerplate language for use in proposals, and supporting on developing specific funding opportunities as relevant
  • Engage in other tasks and responsibilities as agreed to with the Senior Director of Global Nutrition in order to establish this new technical portfolio within iDE

Project management

  • Work with country office teams on tracking of workplans for the multi country nutrition project
  • Manage regular check-ins with country teams and coordination efforts between countries to ensure that best practices are shared
  • Track project deliverables and progress toward goals to ensure that progress is being achieved on time and to a high standard. Liaise with country teams as necessary to set up systems for tracking and management
  • Draft technical reporting and support on financial tracking and management

Operations

  • Track nutrition projects in Salesforce and other project management systems as required. Set up tools for tracking and monitoring as needed to define what awards have nutrition components
  • Review budgets for Nutrition work – to manage spending and flag where key constraints and barriers might be impacting implementation
  • Liaise with the Operations team as necessary

WASH (50%)

  • Work with the Senior Director of Nutrition, Director of WASH, and Senior Manager of WASH to conduct a literature review on the latest evidence at the nexus of WASH and nutrition and produce a guidance note for implementation
  • Write articles and other external knowledge products for iDE’s external WASH microsite, including testing new formats such as blogs, interviews and photo/video essay, in consultation with the Communications team and aligned with the Global WASH strategic communication plan under development.
  • Build and maintain an intranet site using Google Sites, including liaising with teams in each country office to identify user needs and preferences, collate and upload the most recent content, and develop a user guide for site maintenance
  • Identify and lead opportunities for staff capacity building and connection, including organizing WASH learning collaborative events, facilitating subsector community of practice discussions and connecting staff with external professional development opportunities
  • Provide support on testing and rolling out WASH MSRI across multiple iDE country offices
  • Provide support on WASH business development, including proposal writing and drafting pitch decks
  • Explore opportunities to reduce the CO2 emissions related to WASH including whether we can obtain carbon credits for this work
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including for:
    • Finalize a manual to support knowledge management strategy (in conjunction with Senior Manager).
    • Maintenance of folder structure and organization of shared Global WASH Google drive
    • Coordination and recruitment of interns and graduate student projects, including capstones and practicums
  • Other support functions to the WASH team as requested

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Nutrition and or WASH, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in Nutrition and or WASH, or relevant role
  • Fluent in English. Second language that’s used in an area where we work is a plus (Spanish, Amharic, Khmer preferred)
