Position Summary: California Trout seeks a Project Manager to develop and implement regional conservation projects, build public-private partnerships, and promote science and water policy. The position will focus on the rivers around Mt Shasta such as the Klamath, Scott, Shasta, Upper Sacramento, McCloud, Fall, Hat Cr and others. The Program Manager will join a highly motivated team committed to improving water management and restoring fish populations in the Klamath and Sacramento rivers. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead projects that restore rivers, their aquatic ecosystems and surrounding communities. A successful candidate will have strong project management skills, communication skills, work well with regional partners, ability to seek funding for and implement environmental projects, and promote public engagement.
Job Description: Primary responsibilities include program development, grant writing, construction management and administration, strategic partnerships, legal and policy analysis, and environmental permitting. The Project Manager will be responsible for achieving regional conservation objectives and existing grant deliverables while also helping shape innovative long-term strategies for restoring native fish populations. The Project Manager should demonstrate a competence and dedication to CalTrout’s mission, initiatives, and conservation issues. This primarily includes watershed and fisheries habitat restoration and conservation, recovery and protection of endangered species, and protection of water resources and their beneficial uses. This role requires a high-level understanding of resource management, resource agencies and their mandates, and regulatory compliance for project implementation. The Project Manager is expected to work independently, using professional knowledge and judgment in ensuring that duties and responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner and that policy and procedures are followed, but also be able to work collaboratively as part of a team with diverse backgrounds and interests.

Education, Experience, Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years related experience or a master’s degree in natural resource management, conservation biology, aquatic ecology, geomorphology, hydrology, environmental science, or other related fields.
- Demonstrated leadership including the ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and direct teams that are executing complex environmental restoration and assessment projects.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write successful grants, articulate complex conservation issues and California Trout’s mission and goals to a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to perform strategic planning; experience managing the design, implementation, and supervision of multiple complex projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability and legal compliance.
- Experience working with state/federal agencies and knowledge of government workings, and of federal and state laws that affect California’s fisheries and watersheds.
