About the job
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be a core member of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability鈥檚 research team. Research tasks include working on the Center for Water Policy鈥檚 cutting-edge work on urban water policy and governance, as well as our burgeoning Center on Climate and Energy. The candidate will lead policy-relevant research projects, take responsibility for project and grant management, and contribute to stakeholder liaison and outreach of the Institute. We are especially looking for candidates who hold a high level of policy research competence in Applied Economics, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Environmental Science or in a related field. In particular, candidates should have demonstrable interest, work, and/or research experience on the policy and governance aspects of water, climate and energy. All candidates should have a strong willingness to contribute to IES鈥檚 mission and to engage with new topics and research tools.

Job Responsibilites


路 Design, implement and lead research projects under IES鈥檚 various research programmes

路 Prepare high quality research papers on topics related to IES鈥檚 core research themes suitable for publication in high-tier academic journals

路 Contribute to grant and institute-level reporting requirements and funding proposals/applications

路 Provide support for IES鈥檚 events and outreach activities

Job Requirements


路 PhD in Applied Economics, Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Environmental Science or in a related field.

路 Excellent analytical skills with knowledge of:

          – big data analytics, economics, econometrics, laboratory/field experiments, game theory and/or agent-based modelling

          – anticipatory policy design and practice, including path dependency analysis

路 Applied social science experience, including independently designing, conducting surveys and analysing its data

路 Preference for those with good and relevant publication records / working papers

路 Excellent verbal and written English

路 Good time management skills and ability to multi-task effectively

路 Able to commit till 31 March 2023 (renewable for 1 year on good performance)
