WRA has been growing an interdisciplinary team of river restoration professionals including engineers, landscape architects, fluvial geomorphologists, ecologists, and fisheries biologists. Our projects range from large floodplain restoration to dam removal to urban stream rehabilitation across California. We are passionate about restoring riverine and coastal systems that support healthy and resilient natural and human communities. We are invested from start to finish in our projects with our expertise including site selection, topographic surveys, hydrologic monitoring, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of river and tidal systems, assessments of ecological functions, biological surveys, drafting, design, project management, construction monitoring and management, performance monitoring, and adaptive land management. As a team, we strive to make positive lasting changes to our rivers where we both work and play.
WRA has a diverse portfolio of projects with clients including decades long private clients, public agencies, and non-profit organizations. In addition to our technical expertise, we help clients deliver on their projects by helping draft grant proposals, prepare financial models, partner with investors, and engage stakeholders.
The Riverscapes and Shorelines Group, led by Virginia Mahacek and Ashley Zavagno, is actively seeking an experienced Senior Restoration Engineer who can bring their passion and expertise to our dynamic group. Our ideal candidate has experience marketing California clients as well as managing design work in restoration. The position location is flexible within the state of California. Active projects span the San Francisco Bay Area, Central Valley, Sierra foothills, and North and South coasts. In this role you will have the choice to work in person or remotely.
Core areas of responsibilities will include:
- Leading and conducting river restoration-related design projects
- Collaborating with other senior staff to propose on and win work with existing and new clients. Training and mentoring staff with diverse skill sets and backgrounds
- Specializing in one or more of the following:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience
- A Bachelor’s or preferably a Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field from an accredited university
- A professional Civil Engineering license from the state of California or a PhD or practical experience in at least one of the following disciplines applicable to ecosystem restoration design and implementation: fluvial or coastal geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain management, river mechanics, soils, sedimentation or similar discipline
- Familiarity with natural ecosystems and a thorough understanding of river restoration
- To be physically capable of walking on rough, sloped, terrain and licensed to drive for field visits and construction observationsAn eagerness to work collaboratively with coworkers who are mostly working remotely
WRA has an established internal leveling system for our staff that maps to salary bands that have been informed by market data. Our leveling system is dependent on years of relevant industry experience, education, and the level of responsibility and autonomy at which you’re expected to operate.
We have posted a salary range that corresponds to the appropriate level for this position. In some cases, WRA may be open to considering candidates at varying levels. In your first conversation with our recruiter, we will discuss leveling and compensation with you to make sure that our expectations are aligned.
*The salary range for this position is $113,400 – $180,200 DOE
