Agency Description

The Philadelphia Water Department is a municipal department of approximately 2500 employees working in all facets to provide water/wastewater treatment services to the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

Bureau of Laboratory Service, Watershed Science Unit is a unit within PWD that helps maintain the health and safety of our watersheds and complete compliance protocols to keep us aligned with state mandates.

Job Description

Job duties involve analysis and data management of previously recorded fish ladder passage monitoring videos, and tasks related to compliance monitoring of watershed based programs for CSO, Stormwater, Source Water Protection, and NPDES permits.  Work is done under the direction of the Environmental Scientist Supervisor.

Essential Functions

This position involves supporting requirements and compliance monitoring activities related to PWD’s operation of the Fairmount Dam Fish passage facility for migratory and nonmigratory fish.  This position is linked to PWD’s strategic watershed based management monitoring programs for CSO, Stormwater, and Source water protection and as part of PWD’s NPDES permit compliance monitoring.

Working hours are generally 37.5 hours per week. Our team must come into the office every day, the work we do cannot be taken home.

Environmental Science; Ecology; Conservation Biology; Engineering
