Offer Description

Current research interests of the Hydrogeology Group of Prof. Nico Goldscheider at KIT include karst hydrogeology, tracing techniques, water quality monitoring, and groundwater modeling.
The goal of this PhD project is to deepen the understanding of solute and particulate transport processes in karst aquifers. The characterization of the variable hydrochemical and microbiological water quality of selected karst springs of an alpine test area is the main focus. Hydraulic and geochemical processes in the aquifer will be quantified by the use of tracing experiments and the monitoring of natural tracers, especially trace elements such as rare earth elements.
There is the possibility of scientific qualification with the goal of a doctorate in a renowned research group as well as the cooperation in interdisciplinary research projects.
