Chemonics’ Water and Sustainable Cities (WSC) Practice is conducting an external recruit for a Water and Sustainable Cities Practice Intern for summer 2023. The WSC Practice focuses on water security, sanitation, and hygiene (WSSH) and sustainable urbanization challenges. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

We seek candidates with a passion for working on sustainable energy in international development, commitment to creating a positive and productive working environment, and a focus on promoting Chemonics’ values.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Water and Sustainable Cities (WSC) Senior Practice Associate, the WSC Practice Management Team (PMT) intern is integrated into the daily work of a Chemonics unit and performs technical, new business, and project management tasks as needed. The intern also participates in professional development activities and practice networks to gain an understanding of the international development field and Chemonics technical areas. Through research and coordination between a variety of Chemonics’ internal teams, the intern will gain exposure to key functions of supporting donor funded activities in the WSC sector and an introduction to the industry’s most pressing technical topics, including water security, sanitation, and hygiene and sustainable urban development.

Responsibilities: Â·

  • Participate in all internship activities and events scheduled during normal business hours        
  • With guidance from the Senior Practice Associate, drive successful participation in the World Water Week conference and others as relevant by supporting preparation activities, such as conference registration, travel arrangements, abstract submission, and the creation of seminar presentations and communications material          
  • Work with the Senior Practice Associate to facilitate open discussion and technical understanding of water and/or sustainable cities topics and create opportunities for colleagues to share lessons learned, brainstorm solutions to challenges, and identify scalable approaches by coordinating logistics for a variety of events, such as a virtual summit for leaders of projects in the WSC technical area, a quarterly forum, a grants solution session, informal brown bags, and expert panels          
  • Support communication with WSC practice members via outreach through Chemonics’ Yammer site and other forums in collaboration with the Senior Practice Associate   
  • Summarize project success stories to create material for social media engagement in collaboration with the Communications team and Senior Practice Associate         
  • Support internal administrative work on an ad hoc basis, such as updating consultant and subcontractor trackers and databases      
  • Engage with other members of the WSC team as needed and directed by the Senior Practice Associate

Requirements:

  • Enrolled junior or senior in undergraduate or higher.
  • Demonstrated interest in international development.
  • Ability to work on a team and independently on projects and tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in English.
  • Good organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated maturity, dependability, integrity, and initiative to learn about the international development fiel
  •       Ability to work as a positive team member, demonstrate respect for differences, and accept and give constructive feedback.
  • Problem-solving skills and initiative to learn new skills.
  • Familiarity with MS software and database systems. 
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination upon onboarding.

The Hourly Pay Range for this position is: $18.15 – $22.69.
