About the Role

This opportunity will enable you to co-ordinate and lead the delivery of the WAIO Water Catchment Management Approach to Water Stewardship, aligned with BHP’s Water Stewardship Position Statement.

You will have the opportunity to coach and influence, while providing technical expertise in building and maintaining water management systems and deliver on specific targets for WAIO.  You will have the opportunity to provide subject matter expertise into the design and establishment of WAIO Water standards, procedures and systems while facilitating and supporting GM’s, Head of Functions, WAIO Environment teams and line management with Water Stewardship. 

You will utilise your excellent relationship building and people skills to deliver a wide range of environmental services and initiatives.

In this role you will:

  • Demonstrate WAIO compliance with BHP Water Standards (publicly available), developing trackable action plans where gaps are identified
  • Catchment risk management improvement: Development of Catchment Management Plans to manage critical controls and lead the delivery of relevant work to develop and embed these controls within our operations
  • Support the implementation of WAIO’s water stewardship targets, developing and coordinating delivery of annual target workplans
  • In conjunction with Corporate Affairs, lead the development of the WAIO Asset level Water Communications and Engagement Strategy, including supporting the release of WAIO’s new public context-based water targets in FY23
  • Strengthen WAIO’s contribution to collaborative action within our catchments, working with industry associations and other stakeholders
  • Support Environment to deliver other relevant initiatives outlined in the WAIO Water Stewardship Action Plan
  • Represent Environment Function, alongside other internal and external industry stakeholders
  • Support development of case studies suitable to support public understanding of BHP’s Water Stewardship performance
  • Lead and coordinate the identification, design and continuous improvement of Asset-level environment standards, systems and procedures required to manage catchment risks and opportunities, controls, legal obligations and Our Requirements

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience in operational environmental management and water management, preferably within the resources industry;
  • Understanding of relevant environmental legislation, in particular the Western Australia Environmental Protection Act 1986;
  • Significant experience effectively managing internal and external stakeholders;
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs;
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions and performance at both operational and senior management levels;
  • Experience leading change;
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills; and
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
