Our Water, Wetlands & Coastal Science branch is currently seeking to appoint a Project Officer to provide scientific and logistical support for projects that generate knowledge and tools to facilitate the management of the state’s waterways. The work involves liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders to build technical capacity and foster skills on implementing operational policies, frameworks and guidelines on managing water quality and waterway health. The work is part of a flagship water quality initiative under the Marine Estate Management Strategy 20218-2028.
About you
As the Project Officer you will be part of a supportive and high performing team that works across multiple waterway environments aimed at building knowledge to inform management and policy decisions. You will be committed to working collaboratively with the team to deliver customer-focused results from technical or scientific projects to enable smarter and more informed decisions.
You will provide
- Support quality science that meets organisational objectives and appropriate standards of scientific rigour.
- Provide timely advice and communication to relevant stakeholders across Environment and Heritage (EH) regarding science programs to ensure that technical and scientific considerations are properly considered
- Prepare project related documents and datasets, including environmental datasets, status updates and reports
- Manage delegated aspects of scientific project planning and implementation, including designing, conducting and analysing projects, and coordinating resources to ensure that science projects are delivered to agreed timelines and quality to a range of stakeholders.
You will have
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental or water science
- Sound knowledge of water quality and ecology of waterways and associated scientific research methods including demonstrated experience in data analysis.
- Experience in project management and the delivery of technical information in formats understood by a range of target audiences
- Practical experience in use of geographic information systems and their applicability to environmental research and data analysis.
- Demonstrated skills in communicating complex information to a wide range of audience
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to manage self
