Senior/Principal Scientist (Water Resource/Water Quality)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior/Principal Scientist to join our Water Resources and Environment Team. You will lead and support the delivery of projects, providing technical guidance on water resources, water quality and the water environment.

Location: Wallingford, UK

You will be responsible for overseeing modelling project teams in the technical development and delivery of water quality and/or hydrological models, including model scoping, construction and calibration, model use studies, optioneering and cost-benefit analysis studies, to time, budget and the required quality.  You will also be involved in wider water resource planning projects, such as development or reviews of WRMPs.  Some of the work may be on projects overseas.

Key qualifications & skills

  • An environmental related degree with a strong numerical and analytical background.
  • Chartered with a relevant institute desirable.
  • Able to demonstrate significant experience of water resources/water quality modelling.
  • A good understanding of the UK water industry and its regulations. 
  • Technical knowledge and expertise in water resources and/or water quality.
  • Strong interest in hydraulics, hydrology, hydrogeology, nature-based solutions, blue-green infrastructure, water resources, and the water environment.
  • Experience in the application and/or development of numerical models.
  • Programming experience (skills in Python and/or the R statistical package etc.)
  • Successful track record in managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Experience of proposal writing would be beneficial.
  • Proven experience of line and project management.
