Offer Description
Among the effects of climate change on the quality of rivers, there is a higher concentration of pollutants and eutrophic nutrients. This increase is related to higher temperatures, alterations of hydrological regimes, and water scarcity. The joint effects of these two pressures (water scarcity and increase in nutrients) on benthic communities are still poorly investigated. The study will concern the joint effect concentration of phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations and water scarcity on the biological communities of the river Po, through 1) field investigations in heavily anthropized stretches (Turin metropolitan area) with measurement campaigns of the abiotic predictive variables and benthic communities, both from a structural and functional point of view; 2) experiments will be set up and performed in controlled flow and nutrient concentration conditions at the fluvial ecohydrology facility of the ALpstream Center in Ostana (Cuneo).
