Graduate Student Assistantship via AGU

We are looking for a M.S. level graduate student to work on an interdisciplinary project funded by NASA that aims to investigate how changing wildfire regimes in the Pacific Northwest will affect water security in municipal watersheds that supply drinking water. We are seeking applicants interested in drinking water treatment processes, surface water quality modeling, and decision support tool development. 

Applicants would be expected to start in Summer or Fall of 2023, and would be supported as Graduate Research Assistantships, (inc. stipend, tuition, health benefits).

The student will work collaboratively and participate in stakeholder meetings with water utilities, universities, and federal and state agencies in Oregon and Washington. Successful applicants will be enthusiastic for community-engaged research and be expected to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of the research group and publish research results. Prior experience conducting wildfire or water quality related research, or enthusiasm for obtaining these qualifications, is also strongly desired. Students will work with Dr. Julie Padowski at Washington State University.

Requirements

• BSc degree in hydrology, engineering, environmental science, or a closely related discipline,

• Excellent written, verbal, and computation skills

Preferred Skills

• Research experience related to drinking water treatment processes, watershed and/or water quality modeling,

• Experience using R and GitHub for quantitative data analysis,

• Familiarity and/or enthusiasm for learning about drinking water regulations and operations.
