Job description

The expansion and maintenance of transport infrastructure are central to a modern, resilient infrastructure. Due to the direct contact with environment the evaluation of the environmental safety and sustainability of infrastructure buildings and materials have gained increasing scientific attention. The position will be part of a research group (SPT204) within a network of experts of departmental research facilities and executive agencies of the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). The main aim of the position is to develop innovative analytical tools for identifying unknown pollutants released from building products using effect-directed analysis (EDA) approaches and publish the results in project reports and scientific peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will be working in a well-established research team and a modern, state of-the-art analytical laboratory.

Your tasks:

  • Investigation of the leaching of organic pollutants from building products
  • Development und application of analytical target- and non-target approaches for the detection and identification of released organic substances at trace level
  • Development und investigation of innovative analytical tools for identifying unknown pollutants released from building products using effect-directed analysis (EDA) approaches
  • Implementation of monitoring campaigns regarding the release of construction related pollutants
  • Working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Publication in scientific peer-reviewed journals
  • Presentation of results at national and international conferences
  • Motivation to prepare a cumulative PhD thesis

Mandatory requirement criteria:

  • Completed university studies (master, diploma) in the field of (analytical) chemistry or environmental science or a comparable qualification

Important requirement criteria:

  • High motivation and willingness for publication in peer-reviewed journals and preparation of cumulative PhD thesis
  • Good knowledge and experience in instrumental analysis, preferably with LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS
  • Expertise in the field of quality assurance and statically data evaluation
  • Knowledge in ecotoxicology and programming would be beneficial
  • Good knowledge of English (spoken and written), good German skills are desired
  • Willingness for business trips (e.g. for sampling campaigns and conferences)
