Purpose and Background

As Technical Manager for the Water Security Questionnaire you will have the subject matter expertise to support the continuous improvement and maintenance of the CDP water related questions and reporting guidance materials, and to support their delivery into CDP’s annual disclosure system. About the Questionnaire & Guidance Team
The Questionnaire & Guidance team develops and delivers CDP’s corporate questionnaires and reporting guidance materials so that CDP is able to collect high quality, relevant data that will drive change throughout the global economy.
The Questionnaire & Guidance team is part of the Environmental Impact Department responsible for evolving CDP’s thought leadership and disclosure framework.
Key responsibilities include to:
- Maintain the quality of the content of CDP water security questions and guidance materials, in terms of substance and presentation, to enable the disclosure of information that drives CDP’s mission and strategies.
- Ensure that the CDP water security questions and guidance materials are delivered into the annual disclosure cycle efficiently, accurately and on time, including the oversight of junior team members and supporting the tasks related to other themes such as climate change and forests.
- Respond to internal technical queries on the water security questionnaire and guidance, and deliver training webinars.
- Provide subject matter expertise and data analysis related to water security across CDP’s broader activities, including but not restricted to:
– supporting the Water Security team and the Questionnaire & Scoring Evolution team to identify and explore priorities for future questionnaire development so as to drive the CDP Water Security strategy
– working closely with the Scoring team to develop CDP’s Scoring methodologies which incentivise corporate action
– contributing to projects related to the development of other CDP outputs (e.g. funded projects, publications, and engagement events). - Build and maintain external relationships (e.g. with advisory panels, reporting standards etc), and represent CDP externally as an expert for water security issues as required.
The precise description and nature of your job may vary from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet operational needs.
Required skills and experience:
- A relevant academic qualification (postgraduate level preferable), ideally in environmental science, management or data, and preferably specialising in water security and relating to sustainable business systems.
- At least three years of experience (academic and/or professional) in a water security related role.
- Familiarity with accounting standards and initiatives in the corporate sustainability reporting area (e.g. GRI, CEO Water Mandate, TNFD).
- At least three years of demonstrable experience managing projects.
- Some experience managing a small team, and a confident and collaborative working style.
- Previous experience of researching and producing written outputs for a business audience.
- Demonstrably strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize and interpret qualitative and quantitative data.
- Strong MS Excel skills.
Desired skills and experience
- Advanced-level MS Excel data analysis skills.
- Experience working with IT systems (e.g. CMS, data platforms, conditional logic statements).
- Familiarity with CDP’s disclosure framework and systems.
Role details
This is a full-time, permanent role working for one of the most successful and fastest-growing initiatives driving action on sustainability. Based at CDP’s London office, the role offers flexible and remote working options. It will start ideally February/March 2023 and report to the Associate Director, Questionnaire & Guidance.
Salary and benefits: £37,700 – £44,000 with annual discretionary bonus (depending on organisation performance), 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others. There is a 6 month probationary period.
