ROLE SUMMARY
Power, Water, Internet Global (PWI) measurably advances existing Heifer Signature Program goals through targeted technology solutions, equipment, appliances, and innovative financial interventions, to further the pathway to a sustainable living income for smallholder farmers in 21 countries. PWI has a goal to reach five million families on three continents by 2030 with these solutions.
Reporting to the PWI Executive Director, the Senior Water Engineer is responsible for managing agriculture water projects at scale that directly increase the sustainable living income of smallholder farmers in Africa, Asia and the Americas. These solutions must be designed at economies of scale to reach thousands of smallholder farmers in a cost-effective manner. This could include deploying 10,000 solar water pumps and treadle pumps, building standardized village fishing ponds, small-scale dams and boreholes, connecting farms to water distribution networks through a microfinance program, optimizing rainwater harvesting for crops with drip irrigation and storage solutions, and establishing water businesses for youth.
This includes identifying, evaluate, and rank options for water solutions for a number of communities as well as overseeing the implementation of numerous PWI Global projects on time and on budget. In addition, the Senior Water Engineer is responsible for developing PWI portfolio recommendations for each country with targeted PWI interventions to directly increase the living income of small holder farmers and farmer owned cooperatives and identify means to leverage local incentives and resources.
The Successful Candidate
- The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly skilled and dynamic hydrologist or water engineer that wants to direct his/her talents with a passion for humanitarian endeavors globally.
- To succeed in this role, you will have in depth experience and expertise in all technical and business aspects of delivering water solutions to increase smallholder farmer income This would include in depth knowledge of challenges farmer face regarding water and technical solutions to solve water scarcity and irregular water availability. Familiarity with water delivery for agriculture for rural communities is necessary. Understanding of how to research national incentives, water permitting, construction and performance monitoring and tracking use, revenue generation, and operation and maintenance cost models.
- Experience in designing solutions and projects for multi-use or agricultural water systems and projects. Experience in replicating and scaling solutions across communities and regions a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- Engineering or similar degree, with 10 plus years project experience.
- High performing individual with experience designing, developing and managing a portfolio of project proposals and project design, construction, commissioning, and monitoring systems.
- Strong software and spreadsheet modelling skills for system performance technically and financially with detailed cost-benefit, IRR analysis link to affordability and overall impacts on a sustainable living to identify, assess and rank appropriate, affordable technologies in power, water and internet for households, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and cooperatives.
- Ability to quickly understand and evaluate other technologies cost benefit, affordability, cost-benefit, risks, performance, and monitoring.
- Experience managing technical assessments and identifying government water and agriculture programs, processes, incentives, and utility providers and/or partners to work with in power, water, and/or internet.
- Combining technical assessment, financial modelling, into strategic project reports and proposals.
- Experience managing budgets, procurement, contracting, and drafting project specifications for RFPs, construction management and system commissioning.
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong verbal and strong written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, positive, agile, able to pivot easily and detail-oriented leader with exceptional organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred Requirements
- A bachelors degree, or advanced degree master’s degree and/or MBA, PE, or PhD
- International field experience a plus
- Foreign language is a plus
- A strong network of industry experts in water is a plus
SALARY INFORMATION
The salary range for this position is $92k ~ $120k USD annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competency.
