Position Overview:

This position develops geospatially disaggregated data used for engineering analyses such as served population, units, employment, and land use estimates and forecasts. This position uses engineering judgement to use this information to assist with development of water and wastewater service area, demand, and flow estimates and forecasts and incorporate this

information into water resources and water and wastewater infrastructure planning processes. This position coordinates with utility, City, and regional planning processes and provides technical advice, guidance, and support to various related initiatives including Imagine Austin comprehensive planning and land development code revisions, neighborhood planning, and jurisdictional mapping and coordination.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

Graduate Engineer A:

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

None

Graduate Engineer B:

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification.

Engineer A:

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

Experience with water supply related modeling, data analysis, spatial analysis, and technical research tools.
Understanding and comprehension of Texas surface water and groundwater law and water rights and contracts.
Experience with planning, especially related to water resources and water/wastewater infrastructure planning, in the context of climate change adaptation, community resilience, racial equity, and environmental justice.
Experience using land use, development, and population & employment forecast-related data for planning, especially related to water resources and water/wastewater infrastructure planning.
Experience using GIS for geospatial data creation, manipulation, analysis, planning, and development of maps and visualizations.
Experience using statistical methods and analysis approaches.
Experience identifying and building collaborative relationships with diverse individuals, groups, and work units for successful project or program implementation.
Strong ability to understand and communicate complex technical information to a diverse audience using a variety of methods including written reports, print and web content, formal and informal oral communication, and information visualization.
Ability to travel to more than one work location

Pay Range

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

Graduate Engineer A: $31.65 to $39.56 per hour
Graduate Engineer B: $32.89 to $41.93 per hour
Engineer A: $34.86 to $44.45 per hour

Hours

Monday – Friday: 40 hours/week between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Hybrid/Teleworking Schedules are available.
May work other hours as required.
