Offer Description

The Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) offers a PhD FPI fellowship within the Severo Ochoa accreditation of excellence. These fellowships are 4-year predoctoral contracts from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation call “Ayudas para contratos predoctorales para la formación de doctores 2022”.

In the project CECs in urban aquifers: Are they hampering the use of groundwater as drinking water?, the PhD student will evaluate the ecotoxicity of organisms exposed to urban groundwater to identify contaminants of emerging concern that are drivers of toxicity, and he/she will quantify the hydrogeochemical processes that control their fate in UGW. Firstly, the candidate will use Effect-Directed Analysis as a reliable tool to be applied in the quality assessment of water systems.

Personal characteristics such as interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required. Also, initiative, and independence.

Specific Requirements

Knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques such as Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and sample preparation such as solid phase extraction. (positively valued)

Previous experience in numerical flow and transport in porous media (positively valued)

Knowledge of principles of bioassays and particularly zebrafish toxicity model (positively valued)

Previous experience is not required but previous scientific work will be considered an asset.
