Your Opportunity

As a Water Resources Engineer in Training, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team working mining, minerals and metals projects. The Water Resources Engineer in Training will be provide input to various aspects of water management planning and design including hydrology assessments, hydraulic analyses, hydraulic structures designs, water management plans, mine water balance studies and construction oversight.

Applicants must be prepared to travel to field based assignments and to support field operations as required.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in evaluating hydrology design precipitation and flood flows for dam structures and drainage infrastructure design, across a range of locations and climates
  • Provide engineering support to the design of hydraulic structures including spillways, stream diversions, surface drainage systems, stream diversions, sedimentation ponds, storage reservoirs
  • Input to dam safety studies and risk assessment of mine waste facilities, including dam breach inundation modeling
  • Developing water management plans, erosion control, and construction oversight
  • Effectively organize, document, communicate, and present information summarizing technical analyses performed and findings or recommendations developed (both verbally and in writing) to team leads
  • Participating in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Technical knowledge and experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, calculations and design
  • Experience in or familiarity with software packages such as SEDCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, GoldSim, AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D and proficiency working with MS Office Suite
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills, including technical writing
  • Ability to travel to field locations
  • Working knowledge in civil/geotechnical construction oversight of major earthworks or water control structures is an asset

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in civil or water resources engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA or EGBC as an E.I.T.
  • Recent graduates and those with up to 3 years related experience are welcome to apply. Experience on mining or dams projects is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home). Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
