Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer in environmental engineering and water resources to begin August 1, 2023. We welcome applications from highly qualified individuals with a passion for engineering education, teaching, and student engagement and mentoring. Salary and benefits are nationally competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is a non-tenure track, renewable, 9-month appointment, with opportunities for research or to teach additional courses each summer. The successful candidate is expected build an exceptional record of accomplishment in teaching and student engagement, leading to career-track promotions to senior lecturer and distinguished lecturer.
The successful candidate will join other members of the faculty in offering and supporting current degree programs and supporting a new BS degree program in Environmental Engineering, currently in the planning stages. The department has 24 tenure-line faculty lines and 3 non-tenured full-time teaching faculty and offers baccalaureate, masters, and PhD degrees with concentrations in construction, environmental, geotechnical and materials, structures, transportation, and water resources engineering. The successful candidate will join a community of innovators in engineering education both in the department and in The Tickle College of Engineering and will be supported through a strong commitment to faculty development.

Responsibilities
- Teaching three to four courses per semester. Faculty teaching assignments across the department are made with consideration given both to departmental needs and teaching interests of the faculty member. The ideal candidate will have the flexibility, interest, and qualifications to teach courses in both environmental engineering and water resources. Immediate teaching priorities are:
- Undergraduate courses in environmental engineering and water resources
- Environmental Engineering capstone design
Longer term teaching needs may include:
- Civil and Environmental Engineering laboratories
- Professional writing and oral communication
- Graduate-level courses in their area of specialization
Qualifications
Earned doctorate in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related field at the time the position is filled
Ability to develop a diverse teaching portfolio of lecture, design, and laboratory courses in environmental and water resources engineering
Exceptional communication skills and strong motivation to work collaboratively
Eligibility to work in the US
Registration as a professional engineer or ability to become registered within four years
