What is the purpose of the role?

This role involves planning for future investment on Thames Water sewers in North London. The planning team identifies risk on the assets, scopes investigations and integrates the outputs into current and future investment plans. We are focussed on ensuring that our assets can perform as they need to, taking into account population growth, climate change, and asset deterioration. We also look to improve our assets to reduce flooding and pollution. Stakeholder information is used to inform our investment and stakeholders use information on our assets and plans to inform their activities. You will build relationships with internal colleagues to promote future investment. The role is based at either Maple Cross in Hertfordshire or in Reading and will work in North London, Hertfordshire and parts of Essex.

What will this role involve?

Working in a collaborative team, you will be responsible for:

You will respond to development related data from both local planning authorities and developers.

These will include development plans, third party planning applications and pre-development enquiries.

You will record investment needs on our internal system, in order to develop a greater understanding of risk and investment priority.

You will be required to attend local risk-review meetings and regularly engage with operational teams who manage the pumping stations and sewer network.

You will need to formulate concise investment requirements and promote them through the corporate risk framework.

You will provide concise technical information, in a style and language our customers can understand, in response to written correspondence relating to planning issues.

You will liaise with a range of internal departments to produce detailed investment planning documents.

You will assist the catchment planners to produce regional based catchment plans that meet customer, stakeholder, regulator and strategy requirements.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with good co-ordination skills who enjoys managing multiple tasks at one time. You will ideally possess a professional qualification in either asset management, engineering, scientific or an environmental based subject, however this is not essential. A keen analytical eye and self-motivation are essential skills for be successful in this role. Previous experience within a waste water or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) would be highly advantageous, however full training will be provided. You will have demonstrable organisation skills and must be comfortable communicating proactively with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organisation. You must be naturally inquisitive and will be prepared to take full ownership for your catchment area, working in a proactive and forward thinking manner. Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to travel to your designated region on a regular basis so a full and clean UK driving licence is crucial.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is offering a salary up to £36,000 and will be based at either Maple Lodge Sewage Treatment Works (Maple Cross, Hertfordshire) or Reading Sewage Treatment Works.
