Job description  

We’re looking for a Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) officer to join our asset performance team. The role will involve project delivery, consultation and data management tasks that reduce the risk of flooding to communities and businesses in London.

Working with colleagues and our delivery partners you will support the delivery of our asset management strategy and plans including working on flood defence improvement projects and leading delivery of our maintenance work. You will coordinate the team’s responses to planning and permit applications affecting tidal flood defences consulting with colleagues to provide advice to internal teams and to developers. Your work will include managing and improving the data and information we hold and supporting team mates who work on flood defence condition assessment, reporting, enforcement and engagement tasks.

This role is vital to ensure that London’s tidal Thames flood defences continue to perform now and in the future. It is a great opportunity for you to work in the environment, asset management and civil engineering sectors and to help the Environment Agency protect London and the Thames Estuary from tidal flooding.

You will have the opportunity to join our standby teams who respond to incidents caused by tidal flooding.

The team  

The Thames tidal walls asset performance team manage over 3,000 flood defences that, together with the Thames Barrier, protect London from tidal flooding. Our tidal flood defences are located on the banks of the Thames and its tributaries from Rainham and Erith to Teddington Lock.

We carry out flood defence inspection, maintenance, repair and improvement works and use permissive powers to ensure riverside landowners look after the flood defences on their property.

Experience/skills required  

You will be passionate about the environment and use your skills to achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management.
We are looking for applicants to take an active role in project delivery and to provide advice on planning and permit applications for development next to the river Thames.

You will bring experience of working in teams that deliver work together as well as using your initiative when making decisions. You will have strong communication skills to enable positive conversations with colleagues and our supply chain as our projects are delivered using an integrated delivery team. You will bring good data management skills, including using Microsoft Office programmes, while use of GIS software will be beneficial.

A degree level qualification or equivalent experience gained in a related field, for example environment management, civil engineering, asset management or project management is required.

Interviews for this role are likely to be arranged for the week commencing 1st October 2018 and will be held in London.
Counter terrorism security clearance (CTC) is required to work from the Thames Barrier. CRC - Basic Disclosure checks will also be carried out.

This role is based at the Thames Barrier, London but will include some travel to other offices and site visits.
