Intern (Science Based Targets Communication)
World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent, nonprofit global research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity and human well-being. We are working to address six critical challenges that the world must overcome this decade in order to secure a sustainable future for people and the planet: climate change, energy, food, forests, water and sustainable cities.
Internships at WRI provide opportunities for motivated, young professionals to learn from our experts and participate in engaging work at the intersection of environment and development. WRI provides many internship opportunities throughout the year in all our programs and offices. We seek interns with diverse backgrounds and who are passionate about the environment to help us make a direct global impact.
WRI is committed to advancing gender and social equity for human well-being in our mission and applies this principle to our organizational and programmatic practices.
WRI's work on Science Based Targets is based in WRI's Business Center. The work is performed primarily through our role in the Science based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi is a collaboration of CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The initiative mobilizes companies to set science-based target setting as a way to create competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy. The initiative:
Showcases companies that set science-based targets through case studies, events and media to highlight the increased innovation, reduced regulatory uncertainty, strengthened investor confidence and improved profitability and competitiveness generated by science-based target setting.
Defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting with the support of a Technical Advisory Group
Offers resources, workshops and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption
Independently assesses and approves companies’ targets
WRI also engages directly with companies to provide advisory services on setting science-based targets.
The intern will support the Business Center team in communications efforts related to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The individual will support the following:
Develop and execute communications strategies to achieve program goals and enhance program visibility through online communications, media outreach, events, and other venues as appropriate.
Write and edit materials including blog posts, op-eds, e-blasts, infographics, and messaging to translate technical materials for various audiences.
Maintain and manage email contact database.
Regularly track and evaluate metrics of success and adapt strategies to grow and improve outreach over time.
Assist in updating content on the SBTi website.
The internship will gain experience in the following areas:
