Brief Position Overview

The IoE Program & Communications Manager reports to MSU IoE Director to coordinate and implement education, outreach, and communications programs; provide administrative and technical support for IoE initiatives, events, proposals, and reporting; and ensure coordination with statewide IoE teams and activities.

Position Details

General Statement

The Institute on Ecosystems (IoE) is a Montana community of scholars and partners with a shared vision to advance integrated environmental sciences and related fields. We draw on the extraordinary landscapes of Montana and beyond to understand complex ecosystems including the interconnectedness of people and nature.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and technical support for proposal development, grant reporting, faculty-led research/assessment projects, events/meetings/workshops, and MSU IoE Director logistics and projects.
  • Coordinate MSU IoE undergraduate education programs (e.g., water resource minor), including student, class, and internship requirement tracking and reporting, and MSUIoE undergraduate summer research internship program, including recruitment, selection, program development, and assessment.
  • Develop and enhance the MSU IoE’s internal and external presence, including content development, through written and graphical content for website, email list, newsletter, social media, brochures, and advertisements/flyers; scheduling and implementing the IoE Rough Cut Science Seminar and Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Series, and serving as MSU IoE liaison to MSU Extended University and other outreach partners such as MSUExtension and spectrUM.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with IoE partners, including federal and state resource and land management agencies, non-Governmental organizations, private businesses, and Montana tribal colleges.
  • Act as Project Coordinator for the Montana Climate Assessment, including coordination/facilitation of events/meetings, wrangling researchers to meet deadlines, overseeing outreach, and having a role on the leadership team. This position is the one person on the team who knows what every person is doing and what work is being done at all times.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Demonstrated prior experience working with ecology, environmental science, and natural resource policy topics and content
  2. Demonstrated computer and software experience, including word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, graphics, and basic web html
  3. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  4. Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, communication, education, policy, or related area, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Previous experience working with web content management systems.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.

Position will require occasional weekend or evening work and overnight travel for Montana and regional meetings and workshops.

Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points).
