The WaterAid Global International Affairs team plays a leadership role on global advocacy across the WaterAid Federation to steer the influencing agenda for key donors, international and multilateral institutions to achieve SDG 6. Availability for interview is required for the first interview stage on 27th and 31st August 2021. This will be a two-stage interview process. Due to current office restrictions these will take place as video interviews.

As the Head of UK Advocacy, which internally will be referred to as UK Advocacy Team Lead, you will lead WaterAid’s political influencing.

You will also:

  • Work with policy experts to identify policy objectives as well as key advocacy and lobbying opportunities, provide strategic political insight and ensure systematic monitoring, analysis and dissemination of political intelligence.
  • Lead WaterAid’s contact with ministers, and senior civil servants to identify and create opportunities to influence processes, as well as managing relationships with relevant external lobby and campaigning groups.
  • Be a strategic thinker, with significant operational experience of structures, processes and trends in the UK political system, as well as a track record of achieving political change.
  • Have knowledge of international development, alongside experience of building relationships which lead to policy impact.
  • An excellent communicator, you will be able to summarise and persuasively communicate complex information in written form to a range of target audiences.


Salary: £49,440 to £57,000 (subject to experience) with excellent benefits. For successful applicants who are not based in London, WaterAid’s regional salary scale will apply which will be ​£46,309 – £55,000 with excellent benefits.

Additional Information:
WaterAid is currently located at Canary Wharf, London. Due to current restrictions on office capacity the majority of our staff are working from home. All aspects of this including how we are supporting homeworking and the office transition will be discussed at the interview stage with you.
