Position Title: Engagement Coordinator, Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed

Department: Government Relations

Location: Trenton – Temporarily remote due to Covid-19

Reports To: Director, Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed

Classification: Full-time regular (40 hours per week)

The Engagement Coordinator will work to advance the conservation agenda of New Jersey Audubon (NJA) through the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed (Coalition). The Engagement Coordinator will play an important role in raising awareness of the Delaware River Watershed, the Coalition, and activities of our members along with advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) efforts. General responsibilities include managing multiple projects, including planning key Coalition events, advancing policy priorities, coordinating with partner organizations and government agencies, and mobilizing Coalition member organizations, as well as contributing to the overall operations of the Coalition and the NJA Government Relations team.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of Coalition events including the annual Delaware River Watershed Forum, Annual Member Meeting, and other events aimed at raising awareness of the watershed as necessary
  • Develop a broad understanding of the mission, activities, and accomplishments of the Coalition and NJA with a goal of enhancing collaboration among members, raising awareness of activities throughout the Basin, and identifying opportunities for Coalition engagement
  • Facilitate workgroups such as the Coalition’s DEIJ workgroup, including implementing work plans, coordinating and leading meetings, calls, and activities, and disseminating resources
  • Serve as a liaison to the Director of Human Resources to share DEIJ internal and external best practices
  • Ensure DEIJ best practices are integrated throughout all internal and external Coalition activities
  • Recruit and cultivate new organizations, businesses, and government representatives to engage within the Coalition’s priorities as members
  • Prepare necessary reports for Coalition members, the Steering Committee, decision makers, the public, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with external communications content including action alerts, social media posts, and web content
  • Assist with organizing and advocating on behalf of Coalition and NJA policy and legislative priorities
  • Represent the Coalition and NJA at external meetings and events as needed
  • Participate with other NJA staff to adopt a “team” approach towards daily operations at the assigned center
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required for NJA

Qualification/knowledge/skills:

  • Four-year degree and/or two to three years relevant work experience preferred
  • Excellent Computer Skills – Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, time and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to relate to and motivate a diverse range of people, exercise cultural competence and inclusion, and accept direction and constructive feedback
  • Organized self-starter able to work independently in the execution of their responsibilities while collaborating with other staff and organizations with the ability to demonstrate initiative and a positive attitude
  • Strong professionalism and work ethic with the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility to adjust hours to meet deadlines and needs of the organization, including availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and be able to lift at least 25 pounds in order to participate in special events
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle in NJ

Starting date: Immediate

Salary range: $38,000 – $42,000
