Sustainable Water Management Coordinator

This position will coordinate and support the Sustainable Water Management team in planning and implementing research and extension activities to help build the capacity of Universidad Nacional de San Agustín (UNSA) in Peru. This team is part of the Arequipa Nexus Institute, a new partnership between UNSA in Arequipa, Peru and Purdue University in Indiana, USA through Discovery Park’s Center for the Environment (C4E) to work together on key challenges to a sustainable future for the citizens of Arequipa. Responsibilities will include: 
  • Assist the team in initiating, planning, and coordinating research and extension activities by all team members to accomplish project goals
  • Develop effective communication systems with project team members, including an internal and external website and other strategies
  • Develop effective methods of outreach and communication with Spanish-speaking audiences, including newsletters, websites, social media, newspaper articles, and direct communications
  • Initiate and plan regular project meetings, both at Purdue and with Peru partners
  • Project Administration
  • Work directly with the Principal Investigator (PI) to manage project activities including monitoring progress towards project completion by each Co-PI and staff member, preparing regular reports to the sponsor, and developing annual submissions to continue the work
  • Initiate contact and work closely with the NEXUS Project Manager, International Programs in Agriculture, faculty, and other Purdue offices including business office and sponsored program units to ensure project funds move smoothly
  • Communicate regularly with project sponsors and administrators, both initiating and responding to their requests 
This is a limited duration position through 12/31/2020; continuation is based on funding availability. Benefits do apply.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a water management-related field such as natural resources, environmental science, natural resources engineering or related.
  • Two years of relevant experience in a water management-related field such as natural resources, environmental science, or natural resources engineering
  • Ability to conduct professional conversations in Spanish, or develop ability within 6 months of the start of employment 
  • A valid U.S. or Canadian drivers license 
  • Ability to interact effectively with persons from a diversity of ethnic and cultural backgrounds 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, grammar, proofreading, and attention to detail
  • Watershed Leadership experience
