Water Business Line Practice Leader

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Practice Leader to manage our Water Business Line activities in the Hampton Roads area. This position can be located in any of our area offices (Norfolk, Virginia Beach or Newport News).

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans and directs team workload

  • Monitors the fiscal performance of the team

  • Professional Development of team personnel

  • Provides leadership, direction and technical guidance on civil design projects

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations when necessary data are insufficient

  • Ensures proper quality control procedures are implemented on all projects

  • Conducts peer reviews and makes technical presentations

  • Identifies potential clients and business lines

  • Secures and manages clients and contracts

  • This position involves working in a supervisory mode with a close-knit team of design professionals where effective communication is an important part of the job

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering or related field

  • 15+ years of experience in the planning and design of municipal water, wastewater and/or water resources projects

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer

  • Prior experience as a Project Manager for design projects

  • Prior experience supervising engineering personnel

  • Experience working with local, state and federal state permit agencies

  • Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor

  • Proactive on assignments and demonstrate initiative

  • Must work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • The ability to work with other engineering disciplines at various locations, both internal and external to AECOM is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering or related field

  • Leadership experience in proposal preparation and business development in the Hampton Roads area is desirable
