With climate change, erosive rain events in central Germany are expected to be more frequent, more intense, and more widely distributed throughout the year. What measures can be taken to better protect soils from erosion? As part of the project “Innovative erosion protection for Hessen under climate change”, funded by the Climate Change and Adaptation Center at the Hessian State Agency for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG), the protective effects of agroforestry systems and grassland strips under climate change conditions will be investigated using numerical simulations of erosion processes. The results are to be scaled up to the whole of the state Hesse.
