Your tasks:

Your work will contribute to existing and new research activities by modelling and data analyses. Depending on the research question, we implement numerical models of different complexity; models can resolve space in 1, 2 or 3 dimensions and include geochemistry and aquatic ecology. Your work is centered around ecosystem research and water quality dynamics. Important fields of research are ecosystem functioning, climate change impact and mitigation, and water quality management. You will also be involved in ongoing monotoring programs and exploit these data for statistical analyses as well as model calibration and validation. You will be interacting with water-related authorities and reservoir operators in specific projects and work on real-world water management problems and their potential solutions. You are encouraged to establish new research directions in the department and attract third-party funded projects to foster your own reputation in lake modelling.
In summary, the successful candidate is expected to

  • set-up and apply aquatic ecosystem models to investigate ecosystem dynamics of lakes and reservoirs
  • link modelling activities to ongoing research projects and establish model applications in water quality management and reservoir operation
  • utilize existing monitoring activities for model development and validation
  • initiate new research projects and supervise young researchers in these projects

Your profile:

  • PhD in environmental modelling, limnology, physical oceanography, environmental sciences or a closely related field
  • Experience in aquatic ecosystem models, data analyses, and aquatic biogeochemistry
  • Proven ability to pursue scientifically demanding questions
  • Knowledge in data-processing software like R, Matlab, Python
  • High motivation and a vision for creative research
  • Excellent communication and team skills; excellent English language skills are required, command of German language is advantageous
