SOAS University of London

London, United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Salary Range – £36,048 – £51,222 per annum inclusive of London Allowance (Senior Lecturer appointments will start from £43,492 per annum inclusive of London Allowance).

Full time (35 hours per week)

This post is fixed-term from 2nd January 2019 until December 2022 in the first instance
The role and its responsibilities
The role combines teaching, research and administrative responsibilities within a team that will comprise four academic staff from September 2019. On the teaching side, the successful candidate will convene the MSc in Climate Change and Development, offered by distance learning, which was launched in October 2017. This entails direct convening responsibilities for core modules within the programme and overall responsibility for ensuring that a suitable range of high quality modules are offered within the programme as a whole. They will also convene the MSc in Environmental Management, also offered by distance learning, which is in the process of being withdrawn (final enrolments February 2018; last awards to be made in 2022). This entails working with senior teaching fellows and tutors to ensure that the modules are taught out to a high standard. They will be expected to contribute to the supervision of PhD students. On the research side, producing high quality publications and generating research income will be important priorities. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to SOAS’ submission to REF2021 and to contribute to new research proposals and projects.
Skills and experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in teaching on climate change and/or other aspects of environmental management and development at MSc level. Experience with online learning is desirable, but not essential. They will have two or more publications (depending on level of appointment) in high quality international, peer-reviewed journals on topics related to climate change, environmental management and development. For a Senior Lecturer level appointment the expectation will be of ten or more such publications. Preference to appoint a Senior Lecturer will be given in the first instance and will be based on the applicant’s experience. The successful candidate must have a PhD. A good team player is required.
