Scope of the Services

  • Hydrologic Investigation

The Expert shall investigate hydrologic and water resources process and produce robust reports providing the hydrologic and water resources scenario of the basin. The following shall be covered:

• Hydrologic process in the basin;

• Water resources availability and losses;

• Impact of climate change on hydrologic process and water resources; and

• Opportunities for water resources development and management.

  • Environmental Assessment

The Expert shall conduct comprehensive environmental study of the river basin and present its clear picture. Following are the main aspects to be covered during the assessment:

• A comparison of the past and present environment;

• Environmental degradation;

• Water resources development opportunities with least or no environmental risks; and

• Climate change and its effect on water resources and irrigation.

Hydrology & Water Resources Expert Scope of Work:

Expert will provide an insight into the areas of cooperation and mutual benefit opportunities in the Panj Amu basin. The Hydrology and Water Resources Experts will be responsible for provision of the hydrology and water resources overview in the basin.

The expert shall be investigating the hydrological and water resources processes and produce robust reports providing the hydrologic and water resources scenario of the basin. The following shall be covered:

• Hydrologic process in the basin;

• Water resources availability and losses;

• Impact of climate change on hydrologic process and water resources; and

• Opportunities for water resources development and management.

Detailed Tasks:

The expert will be working under the supervision of the Team leader and will be conducting the following specific tasks/activities:

vii) Taking necessary directions and instructions from the team leader and start working on the assignments (mentioned in the Project general ToR);

viii) Conducting research on the hydrology and water resources in the basin and provide input into the required reports apart from specific deliverables;

ix) Analysing the available data and information on water resources and hydrology as required for the project deliverables and final report.

x) Consult and communicate with clients and work on existing water requirements and future plans;

xi) Reviewing existing policies relating to cooperation in the basin, including water, trade, navigation, energy, amongst others.

xii) Reflecting the technical insights of the basin and incorporate into the final reports and recommendations.

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

a) Master degree in Water Resources Management, Hydrology.

b) Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the field

c) Excellent communication skills

d) Fluency in English: writing, reading and speaking

e) Additional trainings on the subject will be a plus point

Duty Station/Working mode: Kabul, Afghanistan / Site Surveyor will assist the expert with data collection.
