The British Red Cross (BRC) have an exciting new opportunity for a Sanitation Engineer to join our team based in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.

This role will work under the direct supervision of the BRC Programme Manager and alongside the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) staff to deliver an appropriate faecal sludge management (FSM) intervention that meets the needs of the affected population in Cox's Bazar.

The Sanitation Engineer will support the quality implementation of all sanitation FSM chain operations in Cox's Bazar and the management of the FSM treatment site. The Sanitation Engineer will be responsible for managing the sanitation infrastructure (reinforcing existing latrines, engineering any necessary improved toilet design, desludging technology, and support context specific transport of faecal sludge), as well coordination with IFRC/BDRCS and other actors regarding sanitation activities and programme adaptations in response to changes in the operating environment.

With the onset of the monsoon season, the Sanitation Engineer may experience significant adaptations to both working environment and the activities required of them. If rains, landslides, or cyclonic events create a secondary emergency within the camps, the WASH Delegate Sanitation Engineer may be required to deprioritise standard activities in order to support the response.

To be successful in this role you must have experience in:

>    Experience in construction of mid to long term latrines and WASH infrastructure in a low resource context
>    Extensive experience of implementing community-based water, sanitation and/or hygiene programmes in the humanitarian sector
>    Demonstrating capacity to (engage effectively with local partners) with ability to provide formal and informal training
>    Delivering programmes in a complex working environment
>    Solid understanding of the international humanitarian sector with a focus on integrated Programming, participatory planning, and local institution capacity building
>    Financial management and budgeting
>    Capacity building and organisational development of partner organisations
