About the Position

Water For People is currently recruiting for the position of India Program Coordinator to support the Chief Programs Officer to develop and oversee Water For People’s operating agreement with its affiliate Water For People India, including support with operational planning and programmatic tracking and reporting. The India Program Coordinator will also develop, share, and review information related to Water For People India with internal and external audiences, including review of grant reports and proposals.

As a member of the Global Programs team, it is important that the India Program Coordinator demonstrates clear understanding of organizational priorities, mission, vision, values, and strategic goals and objectives, as well as trust and teamwork in all aspects of Water For People business.

Essential Job Functions and Duties

Program administration and support internationally

  • First point of external contact with Global Programs team for programmatic information about Water For People India
  • Supports external visits to India

Organizes business planning in India

  • Supports Chief Programs Officer and India Country Director to develop and oversee Water For People’s operating agreements with Water For People India
  • Organizes, reviews, and recommends changes to all internal operational documents including: Annual operational plans and budgets, Bi-Annual reports, Tracking spreadsheets (quarterly), Balanced Score Cards (quarterly), Reflection reports and tools

Maintains organizational information on Water For People India, current and historic

  • Main link to Business Development team from the Global Programs team for all programmatic information needed for pitching to donors, answering donor questions, and reviewing proposals and grant reports
  • Main link to the Marketing and Communications team to review and support creation of content for all external communications and marketing, including web, annual reports, human interest stories, marketing campaigns, in-country marketing assets, and the EF Tracker platform
  • Main point of contact in Denver for internal questions relating to Water For People India
  • Leads onboarding trainings for new hires in Headquarters on Water For People India
  • Develops learnings on biannual/plan summaries and country overview topics for Headquarters employees
  • Manages logistics for staff traveling to India and liaising with Water For People India to schedule and plan staff travels
  • Prepares staff traveling to India for the first time with programmatic, logistical, and safety information
  • In general, provides up to date information on programs for the organization including: status of programs, status on progress towards organizational goals, and good understanding of key learning points

Partners with Business Development and Finance teams to communicate initiatives related to Water For People India

  • Liaises between Headquarters and Water For People India Finance teams on basic finance-related tasks, as assigned
  • Advises Business Development and Finance teams on India funding picture and explaining program work
  • Reviews all grant reports for Water For People donors for India and supports India Country Director to write and review grant reports or proposals, as assigned

Understands and communicates organizational approach, in different contexts to different internal and external audiences, including current and potential donors and domestic and international partners

  • Represents Water For People at conferences and meetings
  • Presents Water For People India program to various audiences and partners

Promotes organizational learning and sharing between Headquarters and Country Program

  • Develops India content for Global Programs Newsletter (monthly) which compiles news from nine Country Programs and the Program Quality team

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in international development or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in related field
  • At least one-year field experience in a developing country desirable, preferably India
  • Good “people skills” and situation judgment in dealing effectively with a variety of constituencies, such as staff, donors, volunteers, and representatives of related organizations
  • High degree of commitment to programs in international development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in or familiarity with the water and sanitation fields; with international development organizations and foundations; and with partner organizations
  • Flexible and able to meet tight deadlines and function in a high stress environment while maintaining congeniality and professionalism
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and monitoring multiple projects, with the aptitude to problem solve and respond creatively to adjustments to the project approach
  • Ability to be a creative thinker, energetic, and demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership in this role
  • Experience with program planning, reporting, and communications
  • Practical experience in effectively relating to people of all levels and professions and experience and working successfully in multi-cultural environments
  • Experience managing grants
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to developing countries, where travel is rugged, up to 10% of time
  • Required to work outside of normal business hours (to meet India work hours, while traveling, and when hosting international visitors)
  • Ability to work in an open office environment
  • This position is based at Water For People Headquarters in Denver, Colorado
  • Personal vehicle and driver’s license required and willingness to transport international visitors to and from airport and other destinations during visits
