We have an exciting opportunity in our London office for a reliable, self-motivated lawyer to join our UK Environment team to advocate for the protection of the UK’s marine environment and good management of fisheries as the UK prepares to leave the European Union. While the focus will be on marine and fisheries issues, their work will also support ClientEarth’s use of the law and legal strategies to strengthen and improve environmental protections in the UK. They will be an integral member of ClientEarth’s UK Environment team and will also collaborate closely with ClientEarth’s team working on EU fisheries policy.
The position will support the wider environmental community through legal analysis and advocacy. They will work in close cooperation with and support the partners, coalitions and networks in which ClientEarth is active, as well as working directly with MPs, government and other stakeholders and engaging with social and traditional media.
The successful candidate will have experience in a legal practice or other legal role that allowed for a degree of autonomy in decision-making and work planning. They will be an excellent communicator, with strong legal analysis skills and an interest in using these to support public interest environmental advocacy work. They will also ideally have knowledge of UK, EU and international environmental laws (especially fisheries and marine laws) and law making processes.
We are looking for the position to start as soon as possible.
