Climate Adaptation Specialist

Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented, motivated and experienced Climate Adaptation Specialist for immediate employment in the Oakland, CA office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Works with a team of engineers, scientists, and sustainability planners in support of climate change adaptation assessments

Conducts climate change studies that involve sea level rise analysis, vulnerability and risk assessments, and adaptation planning

Conducts coastal, riverine, and stormwater related analyses and modeling

Conducts planning, engineering, design, construction, and monitoring of coastal engineering, shoreline restoration, coastal zone managements, and port and harbor studies and projects

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Coastal/Climate Science, Civil/Coastal Engineering, or Water Resources

4+ years of consulting experience

Experience conducting climate change vulnerability, risk, and adaptation studies

Knowledge of coastal and estuarine oceanography

Knowledge of California geography and climate with a focus on San Francisco Bay

Knowledge of stormwater / wastewater systems and/or port and marine facilities

Experience preparing technical reports and memoranda

Passion for promoting climate change preparedness across disciplines (flood protection, stormwater/wastewater, marine and ports, transportation, environment, and city planning)

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Coastal/Climate Science, Civil/Coastal Engineering, or Water Resources

5+ years of consulting experience

Experience with computer programming such as Matlab or Python

Experience with commercial software such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD

Experience with modeling software such as SWAN, DELFT3D, STWAVE, HEC-RAS, and MIKE

Familiarity with use and limitations of General Circulation Model (GCM) data and outputs
